I think it is Forest Gump or his mother that said life is like a box of chocolates. Did they mean that I will get something different every time I try something new? Well they are correct. Sometimes I enjoy what I get others times I do not. Is this an opportunity to learn and grow? Change, transformation, revolution, or renovation, am I supposed to be happy about it?
Some changes I have experienced recently are a new job, new coworkers, a new dog, a loss of a loved one, changes in my health, the change from fall to winter, and a new friendship with my neighbor. I think of the emotions that come along with the change: stress, excitement, anger, fear, frustration and joy to name a few. It seems I am required to grow and learn when experiencing change. While I am sitting here writing this I am glad for the opportunity to do so. Somehow when facing the change in real life, I won’t lie I am not always thrilled about it. Turn and face the strain says David Bowie. Be the change I wish to see in the world, says Gandhi. Maya Angelou says if you don’t’ like something change it, if you can’t change it change your attitude. All inspiring quotes from interesting people, can I remember their words when I need to?
It comforts me to know others think about change and transition enough to write songs and poetry about it. I am not the only one thinking about it. As we change from 2011 to 2012 what songs, books, poetry or quotes help you deal with change? Or maybe there is a movie (other than Forest Gump) you can suggest that will help me deal with change?
